Why Is It...

...that right before I leave on vacation, all hell seems to ALWAYS break loose?

We're leaving Friday for an 8 day vacay in Crested Butte... but I've had little time to enjoy looking forward to it this week! I feel like I've been slammed from all sides...

Work is overflowing... which is truly a blessing because January and February was slow for me.... now I've got three weddings, four birthday invites, two baby showers, two postcards and a collection of building signs to design..... BEFORE I LEAVE IN TWO DAYS!

Miss Priss.... ah, my sweet little thing has seemed to misplace her "sweetness" this week. She's taken a page out of the Diva's book and started to throw her own WAFs. Which fortunately for me, have been daily.... all in PUBLIC. I've stooped to carrying Twizlers in my purse to coax her out of her public screaming fits.

H.O.T.Y. has given me the green light to work on his study with a very talented friend of mine who does freelance interior design. He didn't realize when he gave me the green light that it would cost $$$ to actually do stuff! So, there's been quite a bit negotiations around here....

Packing is at a stand still. We'll be gone 8 days, so it's a struggle to try to figure out what to take, what not to take, and what will be warm enough to stand that cold Colorado weather. Plus, I've still got loads of laundry to do.

We plan to take family pictures the day after we get back, so I'm trying to prepare in advance for what we'll be wearing in the photos. I wish my good friend Shannon would provide full wardrobe options with her photography sessions!

After this week, I really will need a vacation!

Willy the Wildcat

While Molly was visiting Grammie and Papa last weekend, she got to meet one of my favorite mascots, Willy the Wildcat! Here's a cute picture of her with him!

Someday I'll have to teach her a few of the cheers I cheered with Willy back in the ol' days!

Orange Shag Reunion

Once upon a time, there was an Orange Shag Mansion. It sat right at the edge of the University grounds, among the fraternity and sorority houses. The roof was caving in, the basement was super creepy and it had bright orange shag carpet. My mother almost had a heart attack when she first saw the kind of run-down place I planned to live in during college, but this shabby little shack is where my most favorite college memories took place... THE ORANGE SHAG MANSION!

During my three years living in the Orange Shag Mansion, I was lucky enough to live with several AWESOME girls. People that still to this day are my very best friends. Every year I had different roommates, and every year I created a bond with them that has surpassed the last 8 years. Not to say everything was always perfect living with two other girls (we had three bedrooms) but we seemed to survive it and looking back I know I'd do it again in a heartbeat!

This past weekend, a fellow orange shag roommate "H" and I planned to surprise our friend "Red" in Kansas City. We worked it all out with her boyfriend to help us out... and amazingly we were able to pull it off! She was freaking excited to see us! (Oh... it's just you...)

We had a great girls weekend full of food, drinks, dancing (on the bar), and lots of girly gossip. We were joined by two of my other Orange Shag Roomies "Em" and "Sara" which made the weekend even more fun!

I won't go into too much detail (H.O.T.Y. randomly reads this) but I will give a loving Shout Out to ALL my Orange Shag Girls.... you are the very best of the best and I love each you with my whole heart!

and here's just a sneak peek at the fun we had...

and to leave this on a sad note...
the University has since torn down our beloved Orange Shag Mansion and turned it into a parking lot. Thankfully the friendships that were created there will live long in its memory!

Fishy Fishy

H.O.T.Y. got a little carried away the other night at Wal*Mart in the fish aisle.... and decided Miss Priss needed another pet. After a long inspection of each beta's coloring and "personality"... he chose a bright blue one.
Once they were home he and Miss Priss had a good time setting up the fish's home.
When the final moment came to pour the fish into his new home...
Miss Priss squealed in delight!

Then she took another 20 minutes inspecting her new little fish...
H.O.T.Y. tried to get her to call it "Sharkie" but Miss Priss had already named the little guy "Fishy" (original, yes?)

Missing Miss Priss

I have not seen my Miss Priss in exactly 74 hours....

She and her daddy dropped me off at the airport early Friday morning, so mommy could have a girls weekend with her BFFs in Kansas City. Then daddy drove her over to Tulsa, so Grammie and Papa could have her for a few days while he did some projects around the house.

I, myself, had an AWESOME weekend with my girls (and plan to blog fully about it later this week once I have pictures to go with).... but coming home last night was bittersweet to a very quiet house without Miss Priss.

H.O.T.Y. tried his best, he had a Panera Bread Bowl waiting for me at the airport (YUM) and then had lots of ideas to fill the evening so Miss Priss wouldn't be as badly missed. Unfortunately, all his ideas were dismissed due to my massive hang over (thanks KC girls) and I just used my free time to take a nice long nap.

But........ this morning is even worse! Waking up with no baby in the house is HARD! So off I go to Tulsa to meet Miss Priss and her Papa for lunch! Then finally I can bring my girl back home and get back into our routine. I'll be sure to squeeze in lots of extra cuddle time tonight, to make up for the last few days!

So to all you ladies that blogged lately about missing your kids this week over Spring Break... I totally sympathize with you! :)

Playroom Sneak Peek

This is Miss Priss's creative section of the playroom! The letters were made by my very talented friend Annie, while the bulletin board was one my personal DIY projects. And I just love the art paper roll, with the zebra-ball ends!

My Hero

"These hands are the mark of where I've been and the ruggedness of life, but more importantly it will be these hands that God will reach out and take when he leads me home, and with my hands he will lift me to his side and there I wil use these hands to touch the face of Christ."

I never thought that when I took this photograph for a project in college, that it would be an image I'd treasure forever.
My grandma is my personal hero. She was the most amazing, loving, compassionate woman I've ever known. She came to live with my family with I was an infant, so that she could help my mom with me and all my early health problems. I like to think that having her there so early in life created a bond that was unbreakable.
She was the rock of our family, always telling us the importance of staying close and being there for each other. She closed the gap of our Missouri and California families and helped our bond stay strong across all those miles.
She was a funny woman.... making us laugh so often. She'd do such crazy things, and every once in awhile, when I'm feeling a little crazy, I think to myself that I got it from her. She was a worse shopaholic that I am (which is hard to believe)... her favorite purchase was a "Phone Purse." It was black faux-alligator skin, with a big dial on the front of it and the handle had an actual phone. Inside was a cord that you could plug into a wall phone jack and use. I'd give anything to find that purse again!
She gave the best hugs... I hope that someday I can hug my grandchildren with the same bear hugs that she gave me.
It's been four long years without her, and there's not a day that goes by that I don't think of her. I look forward to holding her hands once again... someday in heaven.

10 Random Things....

.... about my new house

(1) The oven is smaller than our last house.... which means not all of my cookie sheets fit! :(
(2) Our master bedroom has a ceiling fan/light with a remote control.... freaking AWESOME.
(3) The Big Beagle gets VERY confused in this house. When she's told to go to her bed, she runs to the door.
(4) The Playroom is a BIG hit for Miss Priss. She woke up at midnight the other night.... walked across the house to the playroom and turned on Barney! She's happy as a lark with her new "Barney Room".
(5) We now for the first time ever have digital cable. I've added new favorites to my showlist: "Millionaire Matchmaker", "Adult Top 40 (music channel)" and "Noggin" are at the top.
(6) H.O.T.Y. has a friend in the neighborhood that he walks with every morning. He and the Big Beagle love their morning walks!
(7) Every morning I wake up to the sounds of birds outside. We're not really in the country, but it sure beats the sound of the interestate out my window.
(8) For some reason, cell phone service isn't the best in this house. We had to get new phones, with a different provider.... and now I don't know anyone's phone #s!
(9) Miss Priss likes to walk down the street to the neighborhood pond. She thinks the ducks are the best thing ever.
(10) and my personal favorite..... our master bathroom has a GREAT BIG WHIRLPOOL TUB. It's the biggest bathtub I've ever been in! I've lived here 11 days and have already taken four baths!
