In October of 2006, just five-and-a-half years ago, we were driving to Texas for the big Red River Football game. And on that drive, we decided that yes, we weren’t quite ready to become parents yet. We thought it’d be best to live a little, to have some more time on our own, to hold the reins on becoming parents… just yet.

Little did we know that there was a tiny little seed that had been planted deep within me, already there, already growing, already preparing to turn our world upside down.

And then, just a couple days later, there it was… staring up at us in the form of a pretty pink plus-sign… we were going to be parents. You were going to be a dad.

Nine months later I watched as they lay a screaming, purple, swollen-faced, full-head-of-jerry-curls, baby girl in your arms.

And in that moment I knew… you were going to be the best dad in the whole wide world.

And yet – five years later here you are and you’ve exceeded what I thought I knew then.

I can’t imagine a better dad to my girls. I couldn’t dream of a better person to travel this once-in-a-lifetime journey… raising them, teaching them, watching them grow, helping them learn, giving them every opportunity to be the best that they can be.

I wouldn’t want to do it with anyone else.

So thank you, thank you for taking that leap of faith with me. What we thought we weren’t quite ready for turned out to be exactly what we needed. Two beautiful girls – with personalities and talents and the ability to bless us each day for the rest of our lives.

On this Father’s Day, please know that you are truly the very best Father in the whole wide world and I am lucky to be here by your side.
